November 2021 Monthly Summary

This month, I savored my students, my friends, rest, and about 9 days in Scotland! This post is a few days late so that I could process all the things that happened when I was in Glasgow with the Global Prophetic Alliance’s Emerging Prophet’s program.

Good news!

This month, I found out that I’ve been accepted to study next September in the World Christianity program at the University of Edinburgh! This program would be one year long, and falls directly between summer residencies and coursework for my current Doctoral program at Virginia Theological Seminary. It would allow me to dive deep into the histories of the Church in Asia, Africa, and parts of the Non-Western world before designing my doctoral thesis. Some friends may know that since this Spring, I have been so ravenously hungry to learn about history that I’ve even felt it as a physical hunger at times. This degree would give me a chance to rest outside of teaching so that I can absorb as much information as possible. šŸ„³šŸ“š Beyond just my doctoral thesis, I hope to use the information I would gain to host more effective and empowering partnerships between educational ministries in the Global South and the West (likely through the Nonprofit Sector).

In every part of this application process, I have depended on Holy Spirit for revelation on how to proceed. From getting themes for application essays, to the specific day I would write them, to contacting professors, to praying over references, to sitting with Jesus as I opened the email that would later be news of acceptance, God has been so faithful through the process. I cannot wait to sit with Jesus on campus, pour over the last several hundred years of church history, and ask the Holy Spirit what he plans to do in the International Education sector in the next several hundred years. May we be exemplary leaders in our current age and may our spiritual descendants last until the Day of the Lord!

While I was in Scotland last week, I visited with a professor with the same program and had a chance to get the lay of the land with friends. In the next 9 months, I will need to fundraise, get my visa, give away furniture, and more. For now, I am resting in Jesus.

Time for a change

Glorious Rest

My Thanksgiving gift to myself was sleep, sitting in silence, and delighting in the Lord. As I prepared to fly to Glasgow, I spent some time wandering in Rock Creek Park and sat down for a long time next to streams there.

I bought myself various toys for the plane ride. I was blessed to have a glorious middle seat and Jesus held my heart through moments of turbulence, just like he said he would.

Toys for the plane

When I got off the plane, my friends were at the airport to pick me up! Spending time with them was so wonderful.

It is hard to underestimate how formative this week of training with the Global Prophetic Alliance was for me. I finally felt like a preshrunk washcloth coming out of it’s wrapper. I had so much space to expand! Since I’ve been back in DC, the Lord’s been speaking to me constantly about stewarding his fire and flowing with deeper abandon in the depths of the Holy Spirit. As I wait for doors to open that could shape the course of the months before I fly out to Edinburgh, the Lord is pulling me into a greater degree of identity work and even greater rest.

Videos from this Month

I have been longing for more opportunities to creatively explain the Holy Spirit to my students! Check out some of the videos and articles I’ve been nursing this month.

Articles from This Month

Prayer

Please pray:

  • That God would continue the deeper work of identity and calling that he has done this month, and that I would rest even more deeply in his peace
  • That all the financial and logistical elements of my coming months would fall into place with ease
  • That my students and I would be able to truly savor being together
  • That everything I do would be obediently in pursuit of God’s perfect will

Peace,

Haley

I am a bilingual Christian Educator in the heart of D.C. who longs to see revival transform K-12 education both domestically and internationally. I believe that inquiry-based and experiential teaching methods pair seamlessly with godly awe and point us through the gospel towards a Creator who invites us to taste and see his goodness (Psalm 34:8). While I love sharing the gospel with people, I take Jesus's invitation to welcome children in his name (Luke 9:48) and Jesus's exhortation to become like children (Mathew 18:3) literally! In order to shape the world well for adults, we must serve the youngest among us so that we will truly understand who we are as sons and daughters (2 Corinthians 6:18).
